Review: My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks

Last year, a full-length cartoon, spin-off the animated series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic“,”My Little Pony: Equestria Girls“Caused a bad resonance in the fan community. And a year later a continuation comes out – My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks.

The actions of the sequel unfold after … it is not clear how much. This is not mentioned in the film, but the place of the film has not changed – we are waiting for the Kanterlot Hai school again, over which clouds are again gathering.

The school should take a musical representation in which our main characters with their group decide to take part – The Rainbooms. And everything would be fine, but a new musical group of three girls appears on the stage (or rather, in the dining room) – The Dazzlings. Their plans are ominous, and the voices – hypnotize all, except, of course, our heroines. Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinky Pai, Rarity, Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle again face evil at their school, but this time they will help Sanset Shimmer, an antagonist of the previous film.

The plot basis of the new film, unfortunately, has not changed much in comparison with the first part. Yes, we again have evil girls who want, of course, to capture world School. We again have the main characters who are amazingly trying to prevent them from this. Alas, just like the first film, Rainbow Rocks suffers from his template in the plot. We saw all this in the previous film and in other similar works. The villains trying to subjugate everyone and all, the main characters, who, despite some disagreements, are united by friendship – this is all under a little other colors. But, in fairness, it is worth noting that the film, in comparison with the first part, added well in his dynamics and got rid of noticeable scenario sagging.

This time the authors paid all their attention to the main characters, and the rest of the characters, one might say, left the minimum of the time screens. For a rather short film (full -length lasts a little more than an hour), this is perhaps even to benefit.

We are familiar with the main characters and their characters from the original series and from the first film, here their distinctive features are only emphasized. And it would be okay with this, but the seventh participant – Sanset Shimmer, was added to the main six. After the events of the first film, it becomes a real outcast at school. Well, how would you feel about a person who turned you into a zombie and decided to capture the world? Sanset’s only friends became just Main Six, who in every possible way encourage her and invite her to rehearse their group. The new girlfriend of the heroines does not participate in the life of the group, the scriptwriters of the film persistently expose Sanset “White Rave” both among friends and among school students. With this role, she will have to reconcile throughout the entire film. She was not given more until the finale of the picture, where she is finally given to light with the rest. To develop Sanset as a character there is where, but in the film this is given catastrophically little time.

In the film Sanset will be reminded more than once about the mistakes of the past. No offense.

You can’t write much about the villain trio. Each of the villains has its own character, which is demonstrated in the dialogs between them. Such usual such unfriendly characters, but they sing, do not lie, beautifully.

In general, music with songs occupy an important role in Rainbow Rocks (even the name itself hints), all the main effects in the film go with the song leg on the leg. And music, perhaps the main plus of this film. Already while watching the film, my hand reached for iTunes to buy an album. Songs are remembered and perfectly in harmony with a picture in the film. Daniel Ingram did not fail both in the original series and in the first film. Here his music sounds like in a real school musical. No complaints. It is worth hearing.

After watching, the cartoon leaves an ambiguous impression. He is worth watching, at least for the sake of musical numbers and sometimes not the worst humor, but it does not see significant progress in comparison with the first part, and to the original animated series to him, alas, as before China (unless, of course, you live on the border with China or in China).

But like the series, the film teaches to be friends and makes it clear to the audience in simple language that friendship is magic. And all of us, sometimes, need to remind you of this. At least in such cartoons.
